INTANGIBLE SCOPES
Villa Heike • Berlin / Germany • July 15 – July 27, 2023
Katherina Heil and Alexander Kadow share a fascination with the phenomena that, within
the interplay between the microcosm and the macrocosm, give rise to our living environment. In both artistic approaches, the engagement with scientific (and natural scientific) aspects is reflected as a kind of search for clues, and a media-reflective investigation is a
crucial part of their practice.
Kadow and Heil work with different media. However, they are similar in their aesthetics and themes, which both artists present in the same, non-commentary manner.
Stones, directions, and strange discolorations—perhaps caused by the specific operation of technological sensors—recur throughout both works. They are presented to the viewer as given, often raising the question of what one is actually looking at. This free contemplation of what is seen and the sparking of the viewer’s subjective imagination is a particular concern for both artists. With the exhibition “Intangible Sopes,” they aim to explore commonalities in their artistic practice and open up new spaces for association for the viewer.
