Placebo explores the tension between what we perceive as natural and what is constructed through human observation, interpretation, and the desire for meaning.
The work reflects on the ways in which images shape our understanding of the world. Through a perspective that is both intimate and distant, natural phenomena become subject to systems of observation, classification, and interpretation. The distinction between direct experience and mediated perception begins to dissolve.
Drawing from associations between scientific observation, landscape, and ideas of nature, the installation considers how humans create patterns and connections in order to navigate complex realities. The title refers not to illusion, but to the powerful role that perception and belief play in shaping our experience of the world.
